I'm not surprised Marco's name is on the list. I'm more surprised it wasn't on the list until Mario had to point him out ! I don't want him to sell out to an F1 team that hasn't proven themselves. I'd rather see him wait, prove himself in Indycars and get on with an established F1 team. I'm ready to wrap up A1GP and concentrate on the #26 and the 2009 Indycar Season !

While I understand that racing in F1 is a goal for Marco, I feel that to truly succeed there he needs to be on a top team. I don't think a new team would have the experience needed to compete right away with some of the top teams in F1 and it would lead to major frustration. I think Marco would be best off staying in Indycar's get the experience and keep an eye out for potential spots on one of the established teams.

And I agree that it was surprising he wasn't intially on their radar until Mario mentioned him.

Can I just say that I looked up the clip on youtube and....well...cringed. Pressure to do well this season has got to be bad enough without Mario coming out with stuff like: If I was to build the perfect driver I'd build Marco.

Anyway, by 2010 the worse of the major changes in F1 should be over and USF1 will have a whole year basically focusing and preparing for that season but these changes might still end up doing [beep] all in the sense of shaking up the grid especially with how far some teams will go to find that wee loophole (this was why the Renault team was so under power at the start of last season). I still think that Marco would gain more from doing a season in GP2 before jumping into the F1 and I still want him to be wearing Rosso Corsa coloured overalls when/if he does.

In His Own Words

From Trackside Online:

Marco Andretti: It's easy to get down on the season we had, especially with the way it ended in Homestead, but it's over with and we can't go back. So that leaves us with having to find the good and learn from where we've been.

We didn't win races, but out of 17 starts we had 11 top-10 finishes. We finished eighth in the points - still inside the top 10. It wasn't a great season, but made we progress throughout the year.

It was a frustrating season, for sure, and it was… Continue

Motor oil runs in Andretti family's veins

Original article here

At the Andretti family resort, the members of a clan synonymous with speed enjoy no end of high-revving recreational choices.

There's a circa-1971 racing boat that Mario Andretti, the patriarch and motor-racing legend, has clocked at a top speed of 210 km/h. There are four-wheel off-road vehicles, motocross racers and jet-skis, a water-skiing boat and more.

And when winter falls… Continue

Teammates Andretti, Patrick insist they're at peace despite rumours

The Canadian Press-By John Kekis

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — Marco Andretti smiled at the question.

Sure, there might have been a few hard feelings aimed at Andretti Green Racing teammate Danica Patrick after Saturday night's race at Texas Motor Speedway, but they already were forgotten.

"I just said what I was feeling," Andretti said Tuesday during a break in IndyCar testing at Watkins Glen International. "I was frustrated. But we talked it out. It's not the first time it's happened and it's… Continue

Marco Andretti tries to avoid another close shave at Texas Motor Speedway

By RAY BUCK rbuck@star-telegram.com

The Andretti name opens a lot of garage doors.

The latest benefactor is 22-year-old Marco Andretti, carrying the family baton now in his fourth year of IndyCar Racing.

Marco brings to open-wheel racing a familiar name and a fresh face ... uh, a Gillette Fusion-smooth face, if you believe the latest TV commercials in which he appears.

The 30-second spot was originally produced for Russian and Canadian market distribution, but has since taken a circui… Continue
